Igor Cabreira Ramos
Associate Researcher
Igor is a Ph.D. candidate in Genetics at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, under the supervision of Dr. Maria Rita Passos-Bueno, one of Latin America’s leading human geneticists. His background spans genetic counseling and human stem cell-based disease modeling, with experience in PBMC reprogramming, CRISPR genome editing, and complementary 2D and 3D cellular models.
Since his undergraduate training, Igor has studied TBCK syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorder. His work seeks to understand how loss of TBCK disrupts cellular and molecular processes in the developing human brain, ultimately contributing to the complex clinical features of the condition. He is also interested in identifying potentially targetable pathways that may inform future therapeutic strategies. More broadly, Igor has a growing interest in the biological intersection between neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration, particularly how early developmental alterations may shape vulnerability to progressive neurological dysfunction later in life.
During his one-year research internship as an Associate Researcher in the Victor Lab, Igor is interested in understanding the dynamics of Tau uptake, intracellular processing, and release by microglia, and how these cellular processes may relate to Tau pathology in Alzheimer’s disease.
Beyond research, Igor is passionate about science communication, outreach and education. Outside the lab, he has over 15 years of experience in musical theater and choral singing—and is a devoted dog dad to his golden retriever, Paçoca.
